“Why do they have to stay here, Tantoo. You know I don’t do well with visitors…”
Rodney gave a pleading look at the woman at the range, but she only smiled at him and continued stirring a pot of savoury stew.
There was a snort from the large wooden kitchen table and Rodney turned around with a glare.
“What?!”
“Face it, Bitt8lo, you don’t do well with humans, full stop.” Tidesso chided without looking up from the leather he was tooling on the table.

John came around to a world tipped on its side. He tried to see just how the car was situated, but he couldn’t focus as his vision was blurred. He knew that, along with his blinding headache and nausea, were symptoms of a Grade 3 concussion. He could hear the hiss of a deflating tyre, the tink tink of cooling metal and there was a faint smell of gasoline in the air.

Paediatrician and Prime Guide, John Sheppard had no idea that by lunchtime he’d be, for the second time in his life, on the run from a corrupt government that treated the S/G community as tools. Only this time he’d have a sick baby in tow; a baby he’d kidnapped. He had no idea as he drove in the worst snows in living history, toward the border with Quebec and safety, that a moose would total his car.
As the temperature drops even further, all seems lost. But John’s life is about to change radically…
He just doesn’t know it yet.
