Atlantis Expedition's numbers
Quote from Andromeda on June 26, 2017, 4:40 pmI'm ironing out the details of my July challenge story but I'm hitting a snag in determining the number of people sent in the first expedition to Atlantis. I've found about 30 named characters present in the first season (before the arrival of Col. Everett and his troops), but I can't find the number of people actually sent. If they all fit in the SGC's gate room before departing the number can't be too high, but then again we don't know the size of the room either. Also, I have no military experience, so I can't start to guess on that front either.
Does anyone know the number or could suggest an educated guess?
Many thanks in advance!

Quote from daisy-may on June 27, 2017, 10:50 amI'm not sure if a number was actually given, but most of the fic I've read - and myself in my fic - work on 75-100 military & between 50 & 100 other (scientists, admin etc)
To be honest, I'd suggest you work out how many you need for your own fic - for instance in one WIP I have, I wanted to keep the military numbers low so although I had 51 soldiers (from various branches and countries) I had 20 or so of them work in domestic support - cooks, laundry etc. Someone has to do these jobs and it makes sense they'd take people with experience rather than let everyone just take a turn as some fics do - but that's just my decision. It might work for your fic that everyone does have to take a turn at cooking, I don't know. Remember what Keira taught us - canon is our bitch and we make it do what we want!
Hope that helps

Good one! An yes, it's true. I just didn't want to make it too unrealistic.
Thank you!

Quote from sorka42 on July 2, 2017, 9:59 amI think in the episode with Chaya, John had said that, including the Athosians, they had roughly 300 people. I've always felt that the numbers were way too small for what they were trying to do.
