Dear Writers,
I suppose now is the time to make it clear that AI writing is not allowed on Rough Trade.
Rough Trade is a writing challenge for actual writers, not machines regurgitating the works of others for vanity posting.
In November, RT will be fifteen years old. As we approach this anniversary, I hope you all take the time to reflect on the talent and genuine creativity that the challenge has cultivated over the last decade and a half.
AI has no place in our legacy.
A few points:
1. AI editing for your banner art is not always a problem, as many online art programs feature tools to allow you to blend, edit, merge, and smooth out your images for the banner that are labeled AI even if they aren’t. But a banner created wholesale by an AI is just gross. Don’t be that person. Better to have a blank banner with words slapped across it than that. Labeling your art as “AI-assisted” is acceptable.
2. AI editing on your prose is not allowed, as I don’t care what Claude thinks about your comma placement, and Rough Trade is a rough draft challenge for actual human writers.
Good luck with the next challenge. I look forward to writing with you all.
