Event Horizon Part Eight – By Ladyholder

“Sir, I’m back, and I need a secure security team up in the parking lot. I’ve got someone who needs the brig.” “Am I going to get in trouble with the President?” Hammond asked before covering the phone as he called for Harriman to send a detachment of security up to the parking lot. “Only if the Trust complains,” Jack said with a shrug when Hammond got back on the line. “And I don’t think they’re going to want to let the President know who their guest was.”

“Dr. McKay, I understand that you were brought here to be a subject matter expert regarding the gate. Do you have anything else to add?” Hammond asked. “Yes,” he said. “You need to make sure that those sensors stay on the gate from now on. We have very little information on how the gate acts during normal travel because there haven’t been any studies done. Also, I would suggest that the DHD that is currently in several hundred pieces on my lab table be put back together and stored here if you are going to continue to use the dialing computer.”

“We’re getting a lot of information off the gate,” Carter said after she had connected the last sensor. “Doesn’t surprise me,” Rodney said before he looked over her shoulder. He reached out to follow one of the datasets. “That’s the last trip in, right?” “It is,” she confirmed. She traced the same dataset and tapped where it ended. “That’s where it stopped. The data’s still there but can’t integrate.”

“At ease, Sheppard,” O’Neill snapped. He turned to look at Simmons and raised an eyebrow at the man. “Simmons. Why are you here?” “I’m here to see if it’s possible to get Teal’c out of the gate,” Simmons said with a grin John wanted to call smarmy. “I brought the foremost expert on the gate, Dr. Rodney McKay, with me to assist Major Carter.” “And Captain Sheppard?” O’Neill asked.

“I can be nice!” Rodney protested. When John came down the stairs, he raised an eyebrow at his guide in disbelief. “I can. I admire Carter’s brains. She did a hell of a job on getting the damn thing to work, and I need to tell her that.” “You cursed her out six ways to Sunday for everything she missed last week. Miko recorded the rant and sent it to me,” John reminded him. “Mav laughed so hard he wheezed.”

John checked the address he’d been given and confirmed that the hangar he’d been directed to was in front of him. The outside of the hangar was bland and featureless, and he had no idea what he was getting into. He let his senses move ahead of him and found that there were two people waiting on him, and he knew only one of them. When he pushed open the door to the hangar, he saw Colonel O’Neill standing beside the unknown party. “Sir,” John said. He tried to figure out if he needed to salute and only stood down when O’Neill waved him off. “Good morning, sir.”

“Do you want this?” “Well, they did headhunt me,” Rodney said with a shrug. “It’s flattering that they want me to join their super-secret project, but it’s in Nevada, and extremely isolated.” John held his hand out, and his guide took it in a firm grip. “That can be good and bad. Any idea if they can find a spot for me?” “No idea,” Rodney admitted.

Project File: Event Horizon – By Ladyholder

John had spent years ignoring what Colonel O’Neill and Dr. Jackson were up to. Until he couldn’t anymore because his guide had been tapped to work at Area 51, and he’d been sucked into a mixed service command that’s testing brand new planes. Planes that went into space. It was all kinds of awesome, and he adored being a test pilot for the F-302 because they were the most fun to fly. And he was able to use his degrees to help tweak and design planes and ships for the SGC. They also allowed him to help take newly discovered tech apart and make it work on Earth. Things were going well until their world got kicked off its axis. Someone was caught in a buffer, and some squirrely Colonel wanted Rodney to fix it. Because while he’d been working with planes and spacecraft, Rodney had been studying the tech that allowed them to get them and became an expert at it. This was going to be interesting.
