Scott Summers lost his Sentinel, Jean Grey, in the mission that left him blind, and he's blamed himself ever since.
Now he wants nothing to do with Sentinels—especially not Logan, a reckless disaster with a death wish.
Logan thinks Scott has a hero complex; Scott thinks Logan is one bad day from collapse.
Then a Wish Baby shows up and decides they belong together.
Chapter 2
Scott used his cane to track any clean pass until he arrived to his office, he moved his hand to feel the doorknob, opened the door and stepped inside.
One hand touched the wall, he could feel the bookshelves as he walked by, as he walked toward the table, noticed as he walked how everything left as he last stood in the office.
Scott counts the steps, reciting it as he walked, stopped as he could feel his table, and then he moved his hand to touch it, not wished to get himself hurt by the edge of the table, he moved his hand, while his other hand kept moving the cane toward the floor, hoping to hear it hitting the metal from the chair, and then he moved himself slowly as he sat on the chair, based only by his touch and hearing sense, and then he let himself to breath.
Scott folded the cane and placed it next to him on the table, his hands are doing the work instead of his eyes as he found a notebook and a recorder.
He moved his hand to touch and real the braille on it, there was the name of the Sentinel which the professor told him earlier, Logan.
It seemed the professor got everything in his office as he talked with him in the podium, which Scott didn’t like it, he felt that he wasn’t ready to evaluate.
Scott sighed heavily, he wasn’t ready to read what’s inside the notebook as he played the recorder.
He clicked on one of the buttons and waited for the sound.

Scott paused the recording as he noticed something odd about Logan’s experience.
Most Sentinels one long-term Guide.
Logan has had three.
That isn’t normal.
Scott makes a mental note.
Three partnerships. None lasted.
When he clicked on the recorder for more information, he could hear the professor’s voice, “For the reports, you’ll need to open the notebook and read, it will be much easier than hearing my voice.”
Scott smiled, the professor had his ways with things that matters.
Then he moved his hands toward the notebook and opened it, turning pages as he read the braille transcript, about the first report.
Report 1 – Bridge explosion
Evacuate civilians after a bridge explosion.
Official Outcome. Mission successful.
Zero civilian fatalities.
Logan sustained multiple injuries.
Team recovered safely.
Everything looks excellent.
Orders ignored: Six.
Logan repeatedly abandoned formation.
Entered unstable structure without authorization.
Refused extraction until every civilian had been located.
Scott sighed, wondering if what Logan did was just reckless or because of his military ground, he just didn’t want to leave any civilians behind.
Scott added another mental note, which he will add after he evaluated Logan for his reckless either not leaving people behind.
Report 2 – Guide Evaluation #1
From a guide that lasted barely a year with Logan.
His perspective about the sentinel.
– Logan refuses grounding exercises.
– Frequently leaves sessions early.
– Keeps emotional distance.
– Avoids discussing traumatic missions.
Recommendation: Poor candidate for long-term synchronization.
Scott stopped reading as he noticed something about it.
Nowhere in the report the guide asked himself why and investigate the cause for the sentinel to act the way he did.
Report 3 – School incident
There was fire spreading in the school area and during the evacuation the guide learn that a child was trapped, he was given an order by the guide, but the sentinel didn’t hesitate and walked through the fire, saving the kid that was trapped.
The witness describe with awe in her voice, about the sentinel who ignored the order walked with determination to save the kid, no matter the cost afterwards.
The kid was alive and that made the incident as success.
Scott stopped reading, the whole report seemed a mess, he wondered how it was handle and how the professor handled it afterwards.
He noticed about the two witnesses, one the guide, the other, the witness who saw the whole thing.
Two people witnessed the same event; One saw insubordination. One saw a hero.
Both are technically correct.
Report 4 – Medical evaluation
Doctor’s notes.
– Refused overnight observation.
– Removed IV.
– Left before discharge.
A nurse pointed out, “He stole his own discharge papers.”
Scott turned another page, wondering what’s more information the professor didn’t tell him, cause the sentinel was obviously a hard case which no wants want to pair with.
Report 5 – Guide Evaluation #2
From a frustrated guide who didn’t elaborate in his report much about Logan.
Recommendation: Reassignment requested.
Scott flipped the page, not pleased about this report, showing no examples, just conclusions.
Scott hoped that the next report might share light about Logan.
Report 6 – Guide Evaluation #3
The guide seemed to like Logan, and had pointers why he did.
– Kind to children.
– Protective toward junior staff.
– Always notices frightened civilians first.
– Doesn’t believe his own life has value.
Scott reread the last sentence.
That isn’t a behavioral observation. That’s grief.
Scott closes the notebook.
Not because of Logan.
Because it sounds too familiar. Too close to home, that’s sounds just like him.
Cause in a way, he felt that his life wasn’t important.
Charles Xavier’s Notes
James Howlett is not an easy Sentinel.
Neither are you, Scott, as a Guide.
Scott immediately rolls his eyes.
Typical Charles.
Then Scott reads the next sentences.
Do not evaluate the reports.
Evaluate the man.
Scott frowns, it was sounds more as a warning than advice to him.
Scott closed the notebook, he got already a feeling that Logan is going to be a hard case to crack, and after reading all the reports, he knows that Logan is having a good heart, but bonding is where the Sentinel seemed the problem.
Scott wondered if Logan thinking about him, or know that he is the one that going to evaluate him.
Scott stood, unfolded his cane, walking toward the wall, need to feel it’s cold, through the heat, he was shaken.
Scott tried not to overthink it, he got an hunch that maybe Logan heard the rumors as he heard it quite a lot after Jean died.
Tears fell down his eyes.
He failed miserably, as he remembered the time that Jean took the coffee cup from him before he went to evaluate Guides or Sentinel, and then when he heard sounds outside his office.
It seemed triggering him the loss of his sentinel, the shouting, his shouting at the fallen of Jean.
He felt himself, falling to the floor, crying silently at the loss of Jean, the Sentinel left a mark on him, and he knew that was his fault that his sentinel his dead.
Vowing to himself to never bond to another sentinel, cause losing one is the great pain he ever knew, and he doesn’t wish to feel it again.
It pained too much, and he couldn’t…
