I'm glad I managed to finish my first RT story. This was fun to write.

The loss of his Guide in combat is the reason Sentinel Evan Buckley is forced to retire as a Navy SEAL. Years of recovery later, the widowed Sentinel meets a Guide he resonates with in ways he never did with his first partner.

Chapter 9 – A Proper First Meeting

Evan needed a couple of days to process that his forever-Guide had been selfless enough to allow him time and distance to heal from losing his right-now-Guide. He asked what his parents knew about his Guide and learned that his whole family had met the man and regularly visited with him while Evan healed.

“What can you tell me about him?” Evan asked curiously as he sat on the back porch with Oliver and his fathers.

Jim smiled.

“We all agreed not to tell you too much,” he admitted. “But your Guide is a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. He offered to transfer here, and your Uncle Simon offered to smooth the way … if that is what you want.”

“Is that why you’ve been pushing me toward working for the PD?” Evan questioned quietly.

“We both know that you have a sense of justice that even the SEALs couldn’t stamp out of you and you worked hard to overcome your trauma,” Jim replied calmly. From the moment Evan had started making progress in his recovery, he had taken Evan to the range and they had worked through his reaction to the sounds of sniper rifles, ensuring that he could handle them again without freaking out or slipping into a feral combat drive.

“What your Dad is trying to say is that yes, we decided to push you into the right direction on your healing journey,” Blair added on. “It felt like the right thing to do … an intervention from the Psionic Plane if you will.”

Evan leaned back in his seat and looked at Oliver, who had attended a short course at the police academy once Evan had been declared stable, and who was working his way through the ranks of the Cascade Police Department. He lifted his brow and looked at his battle buddy.

“You too, brute?” he asked.

Oliver laughed, holding up his hands in amused defence.

“You know I want to be able to always have your back, so I went ahead and prepared myself,” he said.

Evan huffed.

“You are so sure that I will attend the police academy instead of the fire academy?” he asked.

“You would give up doing the things you like doing the most on the job?” Oliver responded.

Evan just pouted in response.

“I want to meet him before I make any decisions,” he eventually said, causing them all to laugh.

“And you will,” Jim assured him.

—————

Evan decided to meet Lou, his forever-Guide, at the Sentinel and Guide Centre in Cascade. He didn’t feel up to travelling all the way to Los Angeles and had offered to meet Lou halfway, but Lou told him he would come to Cascade, where Evan clearly felt safe and at home.

Evan felt grateful for the easy accommodation. He had retreated to the centre, using their meditation rooms and gardens to calm himself down while he waited for Lou to make the trip to Cascade. He sat with his eyes closed in the flower garden with the big old oak tree sitting surrounded by the centre’s buildings.

He was leaning against the oak tree, using its bark to ground himself the way he had been doing since he was a little kid. His head was tilted back, and he relished feeling the warmth of the sun on his skin when he heard it properly for the first time. The beating of his Guide’s heart.

Evan’s head lolled toward the door leading into the garden, and he found a tall, athletic-looking guy with brown hair standing there, a patient smile on his face as he just stood there, looking at Evan the way Evan was looking at him.

They just looked at each other in silence for a while. Evan’s senses took in his forever-Guide. He committed the man’s clean smell, looks, and heartbeat to memory before he even heard the man’s voice unfiltered by a phone.

“Lou?” Evan asked softly, standing up slowly.

“Evan … it’s good to see you being in such good spirits,” Lou said.

Evan looked down at his hands.

“I’m sorry you had to meet me under such circumstances,” he apologised.

“You had been dealt a bad hand, Evan, and your wish to end the pain you were in was understandable. I am glad you made it past that situation and are fully healthy again,” Lou replied as he approached.

“I don’t even know what kind of emotional feedback you got from me when you found me,” Evan replied as he reached out for Lou.

Lou’s expression softened, and as he followed Evan’s physical directions, he pulled his Sentinel in a hug for the first time since they met all those years ago.

Evan buried his face against Lou’s throat and breathed him in properly for the first time.

“You smell so good,” Evan purred.

Lou laughed.

“I imagine I would smell like the human equivalent of cat nip to you, and I can feel what you want, and you will get it but not here … you’ve got to make the choice if you want it to happen at your home or here in an isolation suite,” Lou murmured, cupping the back of Evan’s neck, holding him in place.

Evan went all languid against Lou, allowing the other man to take his weight, as he thought about what he wanted to happen.

“Home,” he decided. He knew he could keep it together until they reached his house.

Lou chuckled softly and nodded slowly. He turned his head and pressed a gentle kiss against Evan’s temple.

“Then let’s get going,” he murmured.

Evan reluctantly stepped back and held onto Lou’s hand, unwilling to let go of his Guide, which the man indulged with a smile. He led his forever-Guide to the parking lot, opened the passenger-side door for Lou before sprinting around the truck and slipping behind the wheel.

He took them home, and before anyone could even greet Lou, Evan dragged him into his wing of the building, ignoring the laughter of his friends and family.

“Are you in such a rush?” Lou asked.

Evan gave him a shy smile.

“Once I realised we already had a good, healthy bond my instincts started to go haywire,” he admitted as he opened the door to his bedroom. “Come on in.”

Lou listened and smiled, following Evan into the room, pulling the door shut behind them before he grabbed Evan by his hips and pulled him into a kiss that quickly turned from intense to scorching hot. Their bond, which had been feeling kind of muted, flared to life violently.

Both Lou and Evan growled, tearing each other’s clothes off, their hands touching every bit of bared skin, and as soon as they were naked, they tumbled onto Evan’s Alaskan King bed. They touched and kissed, and things slowly turned from exploration to heavy petting.

Evan’s mouth wrapped around Lou’s cock, blowing his new Guide with expertise. His hand flailed until he grabbed the lube. Lou spread his legs in invitation, but looked surprised when the slicked-up fingers vanished between Evan’s cheeks and not his own.

“Evan?” Lou asked, surprised.

“I want to ride your thick dick,” Evan said after leaning back and popping off the head of Lou’s cock. He crawled into his stunned Guide’s lap and slowly sunk onto his cock, moaning in response to being speared open.

“God, Evan,” Lou groaned, his hips driving up and into Evan’s welcoming heat while Evan rode him, and then, minutes into their lovemaking he rolled them around so he was kneeling between Evan’s long legs, which wrapped around Lou’s hips.

Their lips met in another hungry kiss, and Lou’s hips were in a steady push and pull motion, the head of his cock dragging along Evan’s prostate, causing him to scream in pleasure.

“You’re beautiful,” Lou murmured into Evan’s ear, nipping at the skin behind it, causing Evan to clench around him, causing both of them to orgasm.

Evan wrapped his arms around Lou and pulled him close, kissing him again.

“I’m glad you are here now,” Evan murmured into his ear.

“I’m glad I am with you, too,” Lou agreed. He said it while melting into his Sentinel’s chest.

They relaxed into each other, and eventually they fell asleep.

When they woke, Evan asked if Lou had anything that kept him in LA.

“No, darling. My parents are both gone and my friends … well … phones and flights are a thing,” he said.

“Then I will join you on the job,” he said. “Dad said Uncle Simon would help you get in here.”

“A bit of good old nepotism, huh?” Lou asked, rubbing his cheek against Evan’s chest.

“Maybe,” Evan said, looking a bit sheepish.

Lou just smiled.

Life was changing again, but this time it felt as if it was changing into the right direction.

Epilogue

Evan went to Los Angeles with Lou to pack up his life there. As he helped sort through Lou’s belongings, packing up the things he decided to take, and getting the rest ready to be donated, Evan learned a lot about his Guide.

One of those things was that he tolerated much more from the Sentinel and Guide community in town than he should have. Around his Guide’s home was the smell of a Sentinel that shouldn’t have been there. At least not in the most private areas of the home. Evan couldn’t fathom why he tolerated the fact that some strange woman was inside his house and searched through the whole house, looking for God knows what.

“Lou?” Evan called out.

“Yes, Darling?” Lou asked, popping his head out of the door to his office to look at his Sentinel.

“Why has a female Sentinel been through literally everything that belongs to you?” he asked softly.

“What?” Lou wanted to know, instantly alarmed.

“A female Sentinel has been inside your home repeatedly, and she looked through literally everything. Well, she and a number of other people, but her smell is the most prominent, so she was here most often, and she allowed others inside. You should probably figure out if she took something,” he said.

“I will check my security system. There are few people who have the code to enter this house, and most of them are part of your … our family,” Lou replied and went to his desk, powering up the laptop sitting there.

What they found made his hackles rise. The woman whom Lou identified as Sergeant Athena Grant, Sentinel in his precinct, had brought a variety of men into his home, and once Evan focused some more, they realised that she had entered the home to have relations with a Captain from the LAFD, a Guide named Robert Nash, according to Lou, repeatedly, and that she took information from his office.

“Are you saying she is married?” Evan asked.

Lou sighed and nodded.

“Yes,” he said. “He is the father of her children. Mundane as far as I know.”

“So she doesn’t even have the decency to do the proper thing and inform her husband that she found her Guide. Instead, she betrays her marriage vows and confirms a lot of the biases mundanes have against Sentinel’s and Guides when it comes to relationships,” Evan said, sounding disgusted. He shook his head. “If anyone finds out, they will think that you condoned this bullshit.”

“We will take the evidence that it always happened when I was out of town to the authorities and ensure that she can’t pull that bullshit anymore. I will leave town with clean paperwork,” Lou replied, grabbed his phone and started to make calls.

The fallout wasn’t pretty and damaged Grant’s standing with the Los Angeles Police Department and the Sentinel and Guide community in town to an untold degree. Add to that the fact that her husband divorced her and sued for sole custody and alimony after he realised that instead of telling him she found her Guide and wanted a divorce, which he would have immediately granted her on the grounds that theirs was a lavender marriage from the beginning, she abused a fellow Sentinel’s trust to have an affair with her Guide, whom she also strung along in disgusting ways.

Lou wasn’t in town for the fallout anymore, but his, and her, former Captain, Elaine Maynard, kept him updated on the situation.

Lou just went ahead and rented his home out to one of those firms that pay you to rent out your apartment or house, before leaving town with Evan and just the essentials.

While Lou settled into working for the Cascade Police Department, Evan went to attend the police academy. He attended the short course that focused more on the law, rules, and regulations, as he tested out of all the physical courses.

It became clear quickly that he was a legacy hire when it became known who his parents were. It made Evan huffy for a couple of days, but eventually, he joined Lou and Oliver at the CPD, and they were the scourge of evil in town, as Simon Banks, the nearly retired Chief of Police, said.

Once they were settled in their life, Evan knew that he had arrived at that point in life where everything was as it should be.

The only thing that was missing was a child, but they had time to get that situation handled. For now, everything was as it should be.

  1. I love to see Evan and Lou so settled, happy and living in Cascade not LA. I’m not surprised to see what Grant and Nash did. They both have always considered themselves better than everyone and above rules / laws.

Thank you for the amazing ride. Awesome story beginning to end. Kudos!

  2. I really liked this great combination of fandoms

  3. Awesome ending.

  4. greywolfthewanderer

beautiful!! really enjoyed this ‘un! bravo!!

  5. An interesting journey, but it was lovely to see Evan finally with his guide and happy.
The last twist was surprising at first, but both Anthea and Bobby had a tendency to think the rules were for others and privacy an interesting idea!

  6. This has been a really enjoyable story and I love the pairing of Buck and Lou in general and especially here. I did NOT see the twist with Athena coming, but it does add an interesting slant to the story. I’ll have to look for some more stories where she’s not the usual upstanding police sergeant; I’ve only seen a couple like that before.

Thanks for sharing your work, and the best of luck with whatever you’re working on at the moment.

    Enjoy the summer.

  7. Great Story
